Elon Musk fires back at the Wall Street Journal’s (WSJ) “bombshell” article about his drug use. The Tesla CEO said no traces of drugs or alcohol were found in the three years of random testing required by NASA.
“After a conversation with Rogan, I agreed, at NASA’s request, to do random drug tests for three years,” Musk wrote on X. “Not even a trace of any kind of drug or alcohol was found.”
The SpaceX founder even criticized the WSJ article, saying it “wasn’t even worthy of being used as bird cage liner.”
According to WSJ, senior officials at Musk’s companies expressed concern about his drug use, including cocaine, LSD, ecstasy, and ketamine. One director on the board was so worried that he decided not to run for reelection.
The WSJ article also referred to SpaceX directors’ concerns that Musk was “on drugs” during an all-hands meeting. Tesla board members had similar concerns when he tweeted that he was considering privatizing the electric car company in 2018.
Musk is famous for smoking weed on Joe Rogan’s podcast and repeatedly talking about using ketamine to deal with depression. This scandal prompted NASA – SpaceX’s partner – to launch an expensive $5 million investigation into drug use at the company. It is unclear what the results of the investigation were.
Previously, Elon Musk said that both he and SpaceX employees were required to undergo random testing for a year after the Rogan debacle because government contractors need a drug-free environment.
“SpaceX is a NASA contractor, and they just believe in law and order. So I get randomly tested for a few years,” Musk told his biographer Walter Isaacson. “Fortunately, I don’t like illegal inhaling,” he added.
